My Simple Woman's Daybook 9/14/2009

Outside my window...it is 67!

I am thinking...the boys and I are going to miss Tim this week.

I am thankful for...my in-laws, the boys and I are going to spend a few days with them while Tim is out of town.

From our lesson plans...we are doing the book Lentil by Robert McCloskey for Five In A Row. We also start co-op on Thursday and I am teaching a PE class.

From the kitchen... We will not be at the house a lot this week so we will be eating at different places=)

I am going...
Monday- MOMS Group, my in-laws
Tuesday- In-laws
Wednesday- Bible Study, making dinner for a friend, church.
Thursday- Tim is having surgery to take out the stent, the boys and I start co-op.
Friday- Wedding rehearsal
Saturday- Nothing
Sunday- Church, wedding, SWITCH leader party.

I am reading...Redemption by Karen Kingsbury and Boundaries by Cloud and Townsend

I am hearing...nothing (the boys are taking a nap)

Around the house...I will be taking care of my love (aka Tim) after surgery and teaching my sweet boys!

Madeline

This week for Five In A Row we did Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans. The whole family enjoyed reading Madeline and learning new things this week.

Madeline lives in Paris, France we got lots of books about France from the library and learned about the culture.

We also made crapes since people eat them in Paris.

We learned about the France flag and painted it.

We built the Eiffel Tower out of cups and counted the cups.

We found out where Madeline lived on a map. The boys said it would take a long plane ride to get there. I asked Tim if we could go=)

Madeline lives in a house with vines, we talked about how vines grow.

Madeline had her appendix taken out and had to stay in bed for a few days. We read the book in bed.

Madeline was taken in an ambulance when she had to get her appendix taken out. Nathan said he didn't want to go to the doctor like her.

In Paris, France there is the Seine River so we went for a walk around the river walk in Oklahoma City and and talked about how Madeline and her friends would go for walks during the day.

I feel so blessed that I am getting to teach and learn with my sweet boys.

I am thinking... I like Tim being home all the time.

I am thankful for... Tim's surgery last Thursday for his kidney stones went well.

From our lesson plans... we are doing the book Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans for Five In a Row, working on days of the week.

Monday- Chicken Pot Pie

Tuesday- Date night

Wednesday- Tacos

Thursday- Chicken Broccoli Casserole

Friday- Buffalo Chicken Dip

Saturday-Hawaiian Chicken Pasta

Sunday- Turkey Sandwiches

Monday- Park with the family

Tuesday- Gym, Library, Educating For Life Meeting

Wednesday- Bible Study, Getting hair done, Church

Friday- Family Day

I am hearing... Tim paint Abigail's room

Around the house... Painting Abigail's room, putting counter tops in the kitchen, cleaning boys room.

28 1/2 weeks pregnant. Abigail will be coming the day after Thanksgiving Friday Nov 27th.

The Story About Ping

This week for Five in a Row we did The Story About Ping by Marjorie Flack. The boys enjoyed reading this book and learning lots of new things.

We talked about discernment and making the right choice, even when it's not easy. We also talk about how The Story About Ping is a "classic" book.

Ping lived on the Yangtze River in China.

We ate Chinese food and talk about the Chinese Culture.

Nathan and Micah enjoyed painting pictures of the story.

Ping had a big family so we got peanuts out and counted how many people were in Pings family.

We talked about buoyancy.

Using things from around the house we played "will it float" to see what would float or sink.

We went to the park to look at ducks and feed them.

We really enjoyed learning in a whole new way. Who would have thought you could learn Social Studies, Literature, Art, Math, and Science from reading one book.

Tim has stones

My sweet husband Tim has had trouble with kidney stones over the years but has always been able to pass them in a few days. The stones this time were a little different. Tim had surgery yesterday morning to get the kidney stone out that was stuck between the bladder and kidney. They also put in a stent for swelling and to help the other 10 stones that are in his kidney come out. If you are like me and wondering, why didn't they take the other 10 stones out? This time they focused on the one that was stuck. The 10 stones in the kidney do not hurt right now and that is another procedure.

This is Tim before he went back for surgery at 6:00am.

Tim is almost asleep before surgery.

The best medicine a daddy could want.

The boys know how to make their daddy better.

I am thinking... we might need to take Tim to the doctor for his kidney stones.

I am thankful for... the tile friends blessed us with for our kitchen.

From our lessons plans... we are stating Five In a Row this week and going over The Story About Ping by Marjorie Flack, working on days of the week and weather.
